SAT Subject Test Lessons
- Do I need to take SAT Subject Tests?
- Which tests do I need?
- When should I take them?
- How do I prepare?
- How do I register?
The use of SAT Subject Tests varies from college to college, so you should refer to the university's admission department for details.
Potential uses of SAT Subject Tests:
- General admission
- Admission into a particular major
- Placement into appropriate courses
- College credit for introductory courses
Some colleges specify the subjects they require and/or recommend. If not, choose subjects that highlight your strengths and interests.
For more information about the subjects offered, go to www.collegeboard.org.
You should take subject tests when you complete the corresponding AP/IB high school class. Taking the subject test around the same time as an AP exam is a great idea.
10th grade - World History in June (if you are in AP World History)
Math Level II (only if you took Pre-calculus as a 10th grader)
11th grade - May and June are recommended subject test dates.
Check with colleges for required/recommended tests.
If you don't have any requirements, match your tests to your strengths.
12th grade - Are you in AP sciences? November or December often give you enough time to submit scores to colleges.
Tie up any loose ends. Did you just find out you need another subject test?
Math Level I and II
When registering for the Subject Tests, you should choose either Math Level 1 or Math Level 2, not both.
If you are currently enrolled in Algebra II, we recommend Level 1. If you are currently enrolled in Pre-Calculus or above, we recommend Level 2.
As part of our Complete Program, we offer a 2 ½ hour lesson for each math subject test. You should attend this lesson shortly before taking the national test. For schedules, please contact us.
You can also take a diagnostic test at KD to assess your skills. Please allow 1 hour to complete the test. There is no review for the diagnostic test.
Individual tutoring is also available for an additional fee for Math Level I and II.
Other Subject Tests
We offer a diagnostic test for other subjects so you can decide which subjects are best for you. Each test is 1 hour and is available without a review.
If you are unsure whether you need to take Subject Tests, please refer to university admission websites. If you have further questions about the Subject Tests, please contact us.
